Common questions

How much do you tip in the Netherlands?

Round up to the nearest euro or five, or 5-10% after a full dinner. A 37-euro bill becomes 40.

How do I tip with a card in the Netherlands?

The terminal will show the amount and let you overwrite it with a higher total. Just type the number you want to pay — this is standard and the server will hand you the machine expecting it.

Do you tip at Dutch cafes and bars?

Leaving the coins from your change is the whole custom. There is no expectation at a bar.
