Tipping in Ireland

Irish tipping sits close to the British pattern: 10-15% for restaurant table service, nothing at the bar. Service charges are less common than in London but do appear for larger groups.

Many restaurants add a 12.5% 'optional service charge'. If it's on the bill, that is the tip. Nobody tips at the bar for a pint.

How much do you tip in Ireland?

10-15% for a sit-down meal. Check whether a service charge has already been applied, particularly for a table of six or more.

Do you tip in Irish pubs?

No. Buying a round for the bar staff is the traditional gesture, but ordering pints at the counter carries no tipping expectation at all.

Do you tip taxi drivers in Dublin?

Round up to the nearest euro or two, or about 10% on a long airport run.
