Best Free Packing List Apps for Android & iPhone (2026)

Most packing list apps are technically free to download, so finding the best free packing list app comes down to what you get before the paywall. The real question is what you can do before the app asks for money — and that varies a lot. Some give you a full, useful list for free. Others show ads, cap you at one trip, or lock the features you actually wanted behind a subscription.
This guide looks only at the free versions, split by Android and iPhone, so you know what you're getting before you install anything. It's based on the same testing as my full best packing list apps comparison, just filtered for people who don't want to pay.
Disclosure: One of these apps is mine — I built PackMyTrip. I'll cover its free tier as honestly as the others, including its limits.
Last checked: August 2026. App prices and free tiers change often, so check the current store listing before you rely on a specific feature.

Packing Pro isn't on this list because it has no free version ($2.99 one-time), and its last update was in 2022.
PackPoint — Best Free Weather-Based List
Platforms: iOS + Android | Free tier: core features, no ads
PackPoint is still the app most people try first, and its free tier is one of the most useful. You enter your destination, dates, and a few activities, and it builds a list based on the actual weather forecast. For a straightforward trip, that's often all you need.
Where it falls short: the interface feels dated, and there's no real way to carry your personal packing habits from trip to trip — you'll add the same items manually each time. No live sharing.
My take: The easiest free choice for solo travelers who want the app to do the thinking. If you're deciding between the two big names, see PackPoint vs. Packr, or PackMyTrip vs. PackPoint if you're weighing it against mine.
PackMyTrip — Free Shared Lists for Couples and Families
Platforms: iOS + Android | Free tier: 1 active trip, no ads
Full disclosure again: this is my app. The free version includes the core features — smart list generation, sharing, and offline mode. The main limit is that you can only have one active trip at a time; Pro adds unlimited trips, unlimited favorites, and premium packing tips. For most people who take a few trips a year, the free tier is enough; if you plan several trips in parallel, you'll hit the cap.
What you get for free:
- A list built from your trip type (solo, business, family, cruise, and more) and activities (beach, hiking, skiing, camping, golf, and more)
- Sharing with a code — your partner or family member doesn't need an account
- Age-specific baby packing lists (0–6 months, 6–24 months, 2+ years)
- A Preparation List for things to do before you leave
- Offline access that syncs once you're back online
- Available in English, German, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Filipino
Where it falls short: only one active trip on the free tier, no weather integration, and as a newer app it has fewer reviews than PackPoint or Packr.
My take: A good free fit if you're packing with a partner or with a baby and only plan one trip at a time. For unlimited free group trips, PackParty or PackItSmart cost nothing. More on sharing on the shared packing list app page.
PackParty — Best Free App for Group Trips
Platforms: iOS + Android + web browser | Free tier: completely free
PackParty is built for groups. You share the trip with a link, and people can join from the app or a browser without registering. The standout feature is assigning items to people, so you can see who's bringing the cooler and who's bringing the tent.
Where it falls short: no weather data, no smart suggestions, no baby lists. It's a collaboration tool, not a list generator.
My take: If "who's bringing what" is your main problem — festivals, camping trips, group beach weekends — it's hard to beat for free.
PackItSmart — Best Free App for Weather + Trip Documents
Platforms: iOS + Android | Free tier: completely free
PackItSmart combines weather-based suggestions with flexible sharing: full app members, web-only members via a link (no account or install), and "offline members" for kids without their own phone. You can also attach tickets, bookings, and notes to the trip, which none of the other free apps here do.
Where it falls short: no baby-specific lists, and it's a newer app without much review history.
My take: A strong free pick if you want packing and basic trip organization in one place.
Packing List – Checklist — Simplest Free Shared List
Platforms: iOS + Android | Free tier: completely free
A lightweight option: suggestions based on destination, dates, and temperature, plus link sharing so others can view and update the list.
Where it falls short: no activity templates, no baby lists, and the collaboration features are less documented than PackParty's or PackItSmart's.
My take: Fine if you just want something quick and free. Test the sharing before relying on it for a group trip.
Best Free Options for iPhone Only
If you're on an iPhone, you have two extra choices that don't exist on Android.
Packaroo — Best Free Manual List
Free tier: unlimited trips and items, no ads, no sign-up
Packaroo is the most generous free tier in this list if you already know what you pack. You open the app and start building immediately. Bundles — saved groups of items like "toiletries" or "camera kit" — make repeat trips fast; the free version includes default bundles, while custom bundles are part of the $4.99 one-time Pro.
Where it falls short: no weather data, no smart suggestions, no Android version.
Packing List – Travel Planner — Free Weather + Climate Data
Free tier: core features; Pro €7.99/year
Its unique feature is historical climate data alongside the forecast, which helps when you're planning months ahead. It also has calendar integration and collaborative lists.
Where it falls short: iOS and macOS only, a small review base, and no updates since April 2025 at the time of checking.
What About Packr's Free Version?
Packr runs on Android and iPhone and has a long feature list — but the free version shows ads, and many of the features people install it for (Family Mode, multi-destination trips, custom lists, favorites) are part of the subscription. If you want a free app, Packr isn't the best fit. If you need multi-destination trips and are happy to pay, it's worth a look — see PackMyTrip vs. Packr for a detailed comparison.
Free Packing List Generators vs. Manual List Apps
If you searched for a free packing list generator, you want an app that builds the list for you. PackPoint, PackItSmart, and Packing List – Checklist generate suggestions from your destination's weather; PackMyTrip builds the list from your trip type and activities. Packaroo and PackParty work the other way: they're a clean packing list tool where you add the items yourself, which is faster if you already know what you bring.
App or Printable List?
Not everyone needs an app. If you pack the same way for every trip and don't share lists with anyone, a printable checklist works fine. My Ultimate Packing List is a good master list to start from.
An app makes more sense when:
- Your trips vary (beach one month, skiing the next)
- You pack with a partner or family and want one list instead of three
- You want to check things off on your phone while you pack
- You travel with a baby and need age-specific reminders
Best Free Packing Apps for Android (and My Recommendation)
- On Android: Start with PackPoint for a quick weather-based list, or PackMyTrip if you're packing with someone else. For group trips, PackParty.
- On iPhone: Same as above, plus Packaroo if you prefer building your own list without any suggestions.
- Avoid paying for anything until you've tried at least one free option for a real trip.
If you want to try mine, PackMyTrip is free for one trip on both Android and iPhone — no ads, and the person you share with doesn't need an account.
Which free packing app are you using right now? I'm curious whether people stick with one or switch depending on the trip.

Packaroo is free and ad-free with unlimited trips, but iPhone only. PackMyTrip is free for one trip at a time, with no ads and account-free sharing for couples and families.
What is the best free packing app for Android?
Of the apps compared here, PackMyTrip, PackPoint, PackParty, PackItSmart, Packing List – Checklist, and Packr all run on Android. Packaroo, Packing Pro, and Packing List – Travel Planner are iPhone only. Yes. PackMyTrip, PackPoint, and Packaroo are ad-free. Packr shows ads in its free version.
Is there a free packing list generator?
Several apps generate a list for you for free: PackPoint and PackItSmart build suggestions based on your destination's weather, and PackMyTrip builds a list based on your trip type and activities. If you just want a printable checklist instead of an app, a master list like the TripGazer Ultimate Packing List works as a starting point.
